- Helps to lower Cortisol (stress) and improves Insulin levels.
- Helps regulate hormones like leptin (lowers appetite) and ghrelin (increases hunger).
THE TYPICAL NORTH AMERICAN BREAKFAST CONSIST OF SOME FORM OF CARBS (BAGELS, CROISSANTS, CRERAL, GRANOLA, TOAST, ECT.).
- These refined carbs give you a quick energy / mood boost by spiking blood sugar. This will leave you hungry again shortly after when you come crashing down from that rush.
- This spike in Insulin speeds up your brain, hindering focus.
- Men specifically, having a lot of sugary foods, lowers B6. This makes them more aggressive and rambunctious.
FUN FACT: The typical North American breakfast will set you up for mood swings, sugar cravings and energy highs/lows all day.
Having adequate protein for breakfast will keep you fuller longer and does not spike Insulin as much as carbs do. Protein helps to stabilize blood sugar and a slower digesting food and will keep you fuller, longer. It also signals your brain you are full and nourished, which can reduce cravings.
