Have you ever been running on adrenaline? Not really sure how you make it through the day, but you do.
During the day you’re constantly running. From one meeting to the next. Project to project. Location to location. Your brain never stops.
Then you get home at night, hit the pillow and start counting sheep. Before you know it, your alarm is ringing to wake up even though you haven’t even slept yet.
This goes on for months, maybe even years. Now you rely on 2-3 extra large coffee’s to get through your day and barely eat. You have brain fog everyday, migraines and can’t concentrate nearly as well as you did before.
Having sleep challenges and not getting enough hours of deep restful sleep each night can easily trickle into your day to day life.
We have said it before and we will say it again. Great sleep is the foundation to optimal health.
Personally when I do not get a good night’s rest, I often notice the following the next day:
- I’m more irritable and less patient
- I drop things, make messes and feel more scattered
- Unable to concentrate for long, if at all
- I can’t think as clearly and not nearly as creative
- It takes longer to get tasks done
- I forget things and my head is cloudy all day
- I often end up late for things and find myself rushing
- Appetite is off. Can either increase sugar cravings or no appetite at all
- My work suffers as a result of all the above
Have you ever felt any of the above symptoms? Or maybe you feel multiple of them on a daily basis right now.
Is your work performance starting to slip? Are you unable to manage the stress / demand of the job you once loved?
If the above sounds like you and you are getting less than 7 hours of sleep each night. This may be the first place you will want to look.
A deep restful nights sleep can allow you to:
- Show up better / more focused during the day
- Manage stress better
- Get more done / be more productive
- Think clearer and be more creative
- Have better relationships with yourself and others
- Make better decisions
The better your sleep, the better you will function during the day.
And companies need to start realizing this and taking the health and wellbeing of staff more seriously.
As my sleep improved, my:
- Sales improved
- Client results improved
- Ability to have better conversations grew
- It took me less time to complete tasks
- I was happier and more eager to show up at my best each day
- I showed more interest in my job and wanted to take on more work
Not sleeping is like a silent killer.
