Insulin Resistance has quickly become a number one health concern in North America. With 40% of US adults (aged 18-44) currently suffering from Insulin Resistance. This number is only rising, especially amongst younger people.
High Insulin levels show up on the body in our back area. The upper, mid and lower back (love handles).
As you know, Insulin is released each time we eat anything.
- Do you have annoying ‘love handles’?
- Are you still hungry after a substantial meal?
- Do you wake up between 11pm-1am? Given you were asleep by 10pm.
- Crave sugar everyday, especially at night.
- Have dark circle under your eyes
- Or have tough marbling skin?
These are all signs of Insulin Resistance.
One specific area I want to focus on today is our ‘love handle’ area as YOU can improve and change this area with a little bit of awareness.
‘Love Handles’ are often caused by our lifestyle choices:
- Consistently falling asleep after 10pm and waking up multiple times throughout the night.
- Lack of consistent and appropriate exercise / daily movement.
- Long gaps, 4 hours or more between meals.
- Having carbohydrate only meals or snacks consistently.
- Under-eating quality fats and protein in meals.
As you can see, these are all things you can make changes too by:
- Improving sleep quality
- Committing to a strength training workout routine + daily step count
- Eating a combination of meals & snacks every 2.5-3 hours
- Ensuring you eat a well balanced plate with 4-6oz of cooked protein, healthy fats and single ingredient carbs
Be consistent with each thing for a minimum of 4 weeks to see change to this area.
