You may have noticed in my previous blog posts, there is a lot of mention of improving gut health. Healing the gut helps resolve a number of other health issues and of course promotes fast, permanent fat loss.

I use this four step process to fix my clients’ guts and help them lose 10-15 lbs in less than 12 weeks.

STEP 1: REMOVE

The first step to fix the gut, is to eliminate common food allergens that are causing the inflammation. The most common allergens are gluten/gliadin (wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt), dairy products, corn products, soy products, sugar, colors and preservatives.

You can choose to eliminate one of these at a time for 2-4 weeks before eliminating the next allergen. Keep in mind, you have to ELIMINATE them from your nutrition. Having them “once in a while” is not the same as eliminating them. Depending on how sensitive/allergic you are to these foods, it can take 3 days to 3 months to recover from the inflammation caused from eating them ONCE. 

This step will also start starving a lot of bad bacteria and parasites in your gut.

STEP 2: REPLACE

Once you have removed these allergens, you can start replace them with anti-inflammatory, nutrient-dense foods as well as digestive support supplements.

The ones I highly recommend are HCL and ENZYMES. These help your gut break food down so that it can be absorbed and used by your body. When you are naturally low in stomach acids and digestive enzymes, undigested food can sit and rot in your gut causing issues such as irregular bowel movements, bloating, stomach cramps, etc. This undigested food feeds yeast and other parasites.

People who have a sluggish liver, estrogen dominance or removed gall bladder may also need a BILE support supplement to help them break down fats in their food.

STEP 3: RESTORE

 In the third step, we restore the gut’s balance between good and bad bacteria. Eating fermented foods such as sauerkraut or kimchi provide the gut with probiotics. It is a good idea to also take a good probiotic supplement to restore the balance faster.

Flax seeds powder works as a great fiber that supports growth of good bacteria.

STEP 4: REPAIR

In the last phase, we focus on repairing the mucous lining of the gut. Here we provide nutrients such as zinc, B vitamins and glutamine. 

A powerful tool during this process is homemade bone broth. Bone broth provides collagen, gelatin, amino acids and minerals that not only help fix the gut, but also help strengthen bones and joints, boost immune system and improves skin, hair and nails.
